Adult Day Centers:
Adult day centers, also called adult daycares,
are designed for older adults who can no longer manage at home alone. They provide them an opportunity to get out of the house and receive both mental and social stimulation. At the same time, they give caregivers the much-needed break in which to attend to personal needs or to simply have rest and relaxation.
A Few Facts:
-A recent study by the National Alliance for Caregiving and AARP found that 44.4 million Americans age 18 and older are providing unpaid care to an adult.
-Almost 60% of all caregivers either work or have worked while providing care and 89% are helping relatives(familycaregiving101.org). -Caregivers are 3 times as likely to suffer from depression when compared to others in their age group. They also are at an increased risk for anxiety disorders, diminished immune response, slower wound healing, and a greater incidence of hospitalization (American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry).
-Adult day programs are also a more affordable option than home care. The cost of home care in the area averages at $20.00 per hour with a three hour minimum.
